East Yorks Competition

Dokan Shotokan karate club returned to the competition scene after a two month respite with a tremendous achievement at the East Yorkshire Open Championships held at Hull on the 21st of October. The club entered a squad of 27 students into one of the country's top tournaments which had over 400 entries on the day.

Most of the top British competition karate clubs were present with large squads from Scotland attending too.

The club won 37 bronze, 12 silver and 9 gold medals and if they weren’t the highest medal winning club there on the day then they must have been very close.

Though everyone did well a special mention is due for Eleisha Mitchinson and Simone Stewart who both won gold, silver and bronze medals.

Of special merit was Lola Cassidy and Eve Palmer who at only eight years old fought their way to a head to head final against each another, with Lola taking the gold in a close fought final. Both girls started karate one year ago and now train six hours a week.

The super skilful Stoner sisters also shone. Sadie Stoner picked up gold in both individual and pairs kata while Holly Stoner took gold in freestyle fighting.

Milly Pomfret took a bronze in her first ever big time tournament.

Dokan is striving to create the top competition club in Northern England and maintain the highest standards of karate throughout. It seems that Dokan may achieve its goal!
