Christmas Party and Awards

We won't go into all the details of who won what but I will mention the Students of the Year.

Fulwell's Student of the Year award was won by 6 year old Lara Elliott who along with her sister Gina are not only extremely regular students but also exceptionally well behaved. Lara is a name to watch out for over the next year or so as I am sure she will prove a force to be reckoned with on the competition scene.

Boldon's Student of the Year award was won by the ever reliable Eve Palmer, aged 9, who is already one of the squads main competitors winning in both kumite and kata.

Redhouse's Student of the Year award was won by Tammy Proctor another fantastic squad member who has won many kumite and kata titles this year.

Supreme overall Student of the Year and supreme overall Best Grading winner was the fabulous Lola Cassidy. Lola along with Eve attends every club except Mondays, training eleven hours a week. Their effort level is second to none and Lola’s prowess at all aspects of karate is staggering. Lola has won nine of the ten kumite competitions she has entered in 2013. The one she lost at Glasgow was won by her friend Eve.

The night itself went off well although there were a lot of families absent, some due to the JLS pop concert, others through prior important commitments and some for other reasons. What was disappointing was how low down the ladder of importance our presentation night appears to be and the lack of attendance from the new starters at the club. I will push harder next year to get more interest.

Despite this the kids had a fun time and the annual and six monthly awards were handed out to those in attendance. I have some new games to play at the summer presentation night so that should be fun too.

The top raffle prize of an iPad air was donated by Ian Cassidy and was won by Tracey Fellows.
