Dokan Winter Grading 4.12. 2016

Our winter grading ceremony is the busiest grading of the year at Dokan and this year yet again it exceeded the 100 student mark which bodes well for the future of the club.

The standard throughout the day was good to excellent as we had dropped our Autumn grading after a poor attendance over the summer months led to students not being ready. You have all heard me rattle on about the high standards at Dokan, and this is a fact but the downside is as the students climb the grading ladder it becomes harder and harder and many of our students just do not put the time in to achieve the levels to progress. This makes little difference in the many sloppy play games karate clubs that are everywhere but I take pride in my students and turn out the best they can be. You may wonder why when we hold our open club comps twice a year that virtually no local clubs enter, well the answer is obvious.

There were some spectacular performances namely from lower mid grades Emma Snaith  but others shone too. When it came down to those sitting their pre shodan black belt and those doing their second dans the quality was exceptional. Grading trophy winners LOW Grade = Isobel Pye / Laura Wanely Haynes MID grade Emma Snaith /  Isabella Shields. High grade = Eve Palmer / Olivia Fellows / Katie Hunnam and Supreme over all best grading went to Walter Mitty.
