DOKAN FIGHT NIGHT 29.1.2017

January 29th and Dokan host a fight night at Whitburn social club. This event consisted of 28 bouts with the age span of the competitors ranging from 6 years old to 45 years old. The evening started with a team kata and bunkai display by the clubs top kata team which went down well with the 200 people present. We followed this with a few dangerous stunts and sensei Kev dusted off his bed of nails to entertain the kids.

Then the fights began, in a no lose situation as every competitor received a beautiful engraved crystal trophy. The standard as always was fabulous and the evening flew by in a well ran and enjoyable event. Although only one area runs all night we had 7 qualified referees present to ensure a fair contest. The few visiting clubs from Middlesbrough, Hartlepool and some Sunderland venues all commented on an excellent and enjoyable night. Another pleasing aspect to the evening was that although my older elite squad members Hannah, Alex and Rebecca were not taking part they all turned up to support the night and help out in various ways. Thank you to all the helpers - Angela Henderson the door lady, Tracy the score board officials, the volunteer refs Glen, Steve and Ron, Angela Snaith and Mike Pounder for helping set up, John for taking the matts back with me after everyone left and most of all to Ali and Angela Nicholson for all the behind the scenes work which no one sees, sorting tombola and raffle prizes takes hours and hours but both give their weekends up for every club event to spend 20 hours cooking the food for the buffets.
