Fight Night

Our third ever fight night and our first in 2015 with the new venue of Whitburn Social club took place on the 10th off May.

Although I invited in 15+ clubs the volume of entries from other clubs was pathetic with 2 from SKA and 5 from Dokan's association club, Middlesborough Shungou.

So the 30 bouts were made up from 53 of our own students. And we could have done more as I had 88 names put forward from Dokan parents wanting their child to compete.

The lack of external opposition meant more openings for our up and coming low grade fighters and some of these bouts proved mega-exciting with high scores such as 10–9 from Sophie and Jessica. In fact the whole evening was filled with close fights and hard won by bouts.

The new venue although lacking a proper sound system with a microphone was ideal. And we now have our own mobile PR system now thanks to the Fellows family.

So the afternoon went well with over 200 people watching the bouts and our new fighters looking far more experienced than they really are and what is more and also very important is the funds raised £329.00 from the tombola, football cards, ship ahoy and the signed Sunderland shirt.

To add to that is £500+ raised by a separate raffle by Lisa and Jason Snowdon who not only accumulated the fabulous prizes but also sold the bulk of the tickets not only at the evening but at their places of work too. This cash is going into a Poland fund pot for our international later this year.

A second fight night may be arranged later this year but I am not sure when as there are a lot of competitions looming in September and October.
