Emma Lucroft Seminar

August 27th, a Thursday towards the end of the summer holidays, seems a bizarre date to set for a return visit by Emma Lucraft (2013 European female kata champion) but it was the only date available for all parties involved.

With six or so top kids on holiday there was plenty of space to train for those that attended. Twenty-one students had the benefit of Emma’s tuition as the first session was simply kata training tips and available to all. The second and third sessions catered for high grades only as Emma taught Anan in depth and ran over Papuren for us to learn and practice before her next visit.

Dokan being a competition motivated club we are moving into the Shito-Ryu style of kata as these seem the more popular at the moment - possibly correctly so as they are intricate and complicated. Full marks to our students for adapting, learning and developing these new skills.

I now teach five Shito-Ryu kata, Chatanyara Kushanku, Paiku, Nipaipo, Anan and Matsamura Bassai. Our next one will be Papuren with two more to follow in 2016.
