NORTH EAST OPEN NISSAN 20.10. 2019

THE NORTH EAST OPEN 21.10.2019.

Seven months since our full squad last competed which in Dokan books is a very long time. I expected the students to be rusty but was pleasantly surprised to discover they handled the occasion well.

Many of the country’s leading squads were in attendance and an entry of just under 500 ensured a tough day and some fantastic karate. Without a doubt this is the highest standard I have ever seen at a small three area tournament.

Carl Jorgeson as usual done a superb job running the day smoothly and efficiently while his wife proved a competent chief ref and when on the flags made the most consistent decisions of the day.

We entered 33 students and finished the day second on the medal table WKF style on golds won but using the old point system we were well ahead due to 22 bronze medals.

There is not much more to say except it was nice to be back at a tournament. Even in the capacity of a spectator only.
